About Garden Department
A department of one, and a long growing season.
Every garden runs on the same quiet schedule. Seed catalogues read by the window in January. Trays of seedlings under the lights in March. The long wait for the last frost, and then a weekend of planting everything at once. By August there are more tomatoes than anyone can eat, and the zucchini are being left on neighbours' porches.
The Garden Department borrows its look from old seed catalogues, agricultural bulletins and botanical plates: careful drawings, plain old type and only a few inks. It's for kitchen gardeners, flower growers, beekeepers and anyone who plants for the bees. No meetings and no dues. Just good clothes for the garden, and for the farmers' market after.
