About Card Table Social
Four to a table, for about a century and a half.
Mahjong was born in China in the 1800s. It came to America in the 1920s, and for the century since it has been kept going at card tables in Chinatown associations and family kitchens, in Jewish American living rooms and community centers, and lately in bars, bakeries and back rooms all over the country. Different rules, different tables, the same four seats and the same sound of the shuffle.
Card Table Social is about that table and the people around it: the standing Tuesday game, the snack table, the bottle someone brought, the chair that's always open for a fourth. We draw the tiles we show as they really are, and we leave the game exactly as we found it. Every style of play is welcome here.
